We wanted to post some additional photos from Kyle’s first birthday party, as well as a few new ones that we hadn’t posted on the site yet. Thanks Aunt Gail for sending me the ones you took from his party!
The two professional photos above were taken a week after his first birthday. It looks like I might have to take Kyle fishing when he gets a little bit older, he seems ready in the photo above.
We also have news to report from Kyle’s neurologist visit. He seems to be doing very well, and if he continues to be seizure free we will start to slowly wean him off his medicine at the end of 2009. Monica and I are happy about that, but also a little scared. Last time we took him off his anti-seizure medicine he was doing very well for over a month before having a big seizure that we had to call the ambulance for and continued to have uncontrollable back to back seizures. He ended up in the hospital for 5 days, put into a drug induced coma for 24 hours, and was put back on his medicine. We hope and pray that this won’t happen again. They tell us that he has a 60% chance of outgrowing them since he seems to be responding so well to the medicine, but we won’t know until we try again.
We both also are so happy that he is doing so well. He is always full of energy, and is almost at the point of taking his first steps. We predict this will happen very soon, and then Monica will have fun chasing him around our small place. He loves to explore and touch everything in sight. We are going to have quite a lot of fun in the months ahead!
Thanks again to all who attended his party, and for all the wonderful gifts. Kyle is blessed that he is so well loved and has so many friends.

Kyle’s first Birthday Party was a big success! It was wonderful that so many friends and family came to wish Kyle well on his very first birthday. I still can’t believe it has already been one year! How time seems to fly by.
It was great to see some friends I haven’t seen for a while. Everyone was surprised how big Kyle is, and as usual he was the center of attention. I filmed around 20 minutes of video, but had to edit it down in order to upload it to the web. The highlight is towards the end of the video when Kyle ate his birthday cake. Bear in mind that this was the first time that he has had a cake, or anything with sugar in it for that matter. He wasn’t really sure what to think about it at first and was afraid to get all messy, but once he had a taste he really went to town eating it. It is pretty funny watching him eating his cake.
I wanted to thank everyone that attended for the many great gifts that Kyle received, and for making his party fun. We all had a wonderful time!

Well this is a short video that I just got from my sister. She had it stored on her memory card for almost a year! She was over to our place on Christmas Eve, and I finally got a chance to download it to my hard drive.
This is from Kyle’s dedication at Calvary Chapel in Huntington Beach, California. The date was March 30th, 2008. Kyle was just around 10 weeks old in this video, so most of you will be surprised to see how tiny he was. Monica and I can hardly remember when he was so small. How fast he has grown up!
Thanks to my sister Tina for taking this video, and for keeping it for almost a year for me. hope you all enjoy it.
VHS Tapes are Officially Dead January 5, 2009

Please take a second to vote in the poll question below. Thank you.
I read an article today about the end of the VHS tapes. Everyone remembers the VHS tapes, although my soon to be one year old son Kyle will never get a chance to remember what they were. Just like the 8-Track, the cassette tape and the record player the VHS tape has finally seen its last days. Below is a brief part of that article I read from the Los Angeles Times:
Pop culture is finally hitting the eject button on the VHS tape, the once-ubiquitous home-video format that will finish this month as a creaky ghost of Christmas past.
After three decades of steady if unspectacular service, the spinning wheels of the home-entertainment stalwart are slowing to a halt at retail outlets. On a crisp Friday morning in October, the final truckload of VHS tapes rolled out of a Palm Harbor, Fla., warehouse run by Ryan J. Kugler, the last major supplier of the tapes.
“It’s dead, this is it, this is the last Christmas, without a doubt,” said Kugler, 34, a Burbank businessman. “I was the last one buying VHS and the last one selling it, and I’m done. Anything left in warehouse we’ll just give away or throw away.”
The last major Hollywood movie to be released on VHS was “A History of Violence” in 2006. By that point major retailers such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart were already well on their way to evicting all the VHS tapes from their shelves so the valuable real estate could go to the sleeker and smaller DVDs and, in more recent seasons, the latest upstart, Blu-ray discs. Kugler ended up buying back as much VHS inventory as he could from retailers, distributors and studios; he then sold more than 4 million VHS videotapes over the last two years.
Kugler estimates that 2 million tapes are still sitting on shelves of his clients’ stores across the country, but they are the last analog soldiers in the lost battle against the digital invasion. “I’m not sure a lot of people are going to miss VHS,” he said, “but it’s been good to us.”
If you rewind back to the 1980s, VHS represented a remarkable turning point for the American consumer. For the first time, Hollywood’s classics and its recent hits could be rented and watched at home.
The format was easy to use (although fast-forwarding and rewinding to any particular spot was the worst new-tech irritant since the telephone busy signal) and, of course, the videocassette recorder and blank VHS tapes made it possible to catch up on any missed must-see TV, whether it was “Days of Our Lives” or “Monday Night Football.” Hollywood found that movies also enjoyed a second opening weekend, as viewers throughout the country made Friday night trips to the rental store for new releases.
I have to admit I am really not that sad to see these VHS tapes go. I have an old VHS tape player sitting in my garage, as well as a box of movies that I am sure I will never watch again. Even since I got my first DVD player many years ago the VHS kinda got ignored. I would hate having to rewind or fast forward all the time to get to the good parts in the movie. The DVD is so much easier, and has a better picture.
The part that kinda scares me is the last part of the article that states:
“The DVD will be obsolete in three or four years, no doubt about it. Everything will be Blu-ray,” Kugler said, anticipating the next resident at his pop culture retirement home. “The days of the DVD are numbered.
So soon the DVD will be gone and replaced with Blu-ray? I would like to eventually get a blu-ray player, but they are so expensive right now. I am sure within the next year you will probably be able to purchase one close to one hundred dollars. Like all new technology prices go down after a while.
So this makes me ponder a new poll question for you all. Please take a minute to make your response. As always your comments are welcome as well.

Happy New Year! January 1, 2009

Well another year has come and gone, I still cannot believe how fast the time flies bye. It seems to go faster and faster as you get older. I enjoy the New Year because it gives everyone a chance to reflect on the last year, and gives you an opportunity to get a fresh start if you want to change something about yourself. Of course we usually all say that we want to lose weight, and we stick to this plan for a couple of days or weeks before we blow it. But it stills lets you evaluate your life, and this last year has been both good and bad for me and my family.
The bad is really not that bad. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Every situation does have the possibility to have some positive effects, regardless of how bad it seems. Sometimes it isn’t apparent right away, but as time goes on you realize that without something bad happening you wouldn’t be in a current position to have good things happen.
The worst thing I think that has happened this last year is the economy. I feel more effected than most because the slowdown has made my work very slow, and my paychecks have been getting smaller. But I am thankful that I still have a job, and despite slow sales I still manage to provide for my family. It has had a positive effect in that Monica and I are much more aware of our money and how we spend it. This is good because you realize how much you waste your money on stuff that really isn’t that important. It gives you the opportunity to re-evaluate your spending habits and make the necessary adjustments. I can see that this process is not only happening with me, but with most of the people in the United States. This is good because when things are going well we forget how wasteful we have become, and also how fortunate we are. As long as we have a place to stay, clothing to wear, and food to eat we will survive. We need to realize that many people struggle to even have the basics I just mentioned. I am optimistic that things will begin to get better in the new year.
Despite the bad things that happened in the last year I also have had a wonderful thing happen. That is the birth of my son Kyle. This one thing overrides everything else, and as long as he is healthy and happy I will be too. I still cannot believe how much Monica and I had our lives changed on January 15th, 2008. We both are overjoyed to have this little guy, and are happy that despite a few medical problems he is healthy and happy. If you would have told me a year ago how much things would have changed for me I wouldn’t have believed you. It has been the greatest thing to happen in both our lives. We cannot imagine things without him.
Monica and I want to wish all our family and friends a very Happy New Year. We hope that is is filled with much joy and happiness for everyone.
