5.4-Magnitude Quake Near L.A. a Drill for the ‘Big One’ July 30, 2008

Everyone has probably already heard, but southern California experienced another earthquake yesterday. I was in the Jacuzzi with Monica’s sister Mandy who is visiting us for a few days. At first I thought I was imagining, but soon I realized that I wasn’t. It was weird experience being in water when it happened. It felt like the whole jacuzzi was moving up and down, and I got a little dizzy for a second.

Monica was inside feeding Kyle when it happened. She came outside to the pool area to confirm that we just experienced an earthquake. We turned on the television and found out the quake was centered in Chino Hills, California. This is the town where my Mother currently lives. I tried several times to call her, but all the phone lines were busy and I finally got the chance to leave a message on her answering machine. I was beginning to get concerned when she finally called me back to say she was alright. She was out eating lunch at a local restaurant when it happened, and just returned home. It was a relief to find out she was fine.
Although I have been living in southern California for over 20 years, and have experienced a few earthquakes, I still don’t like it. It is an uneasy feeling when you realize that one is happening, and really nothing you can do but wait it out. You always hope that it won’t be to big and strong.
This one was considered a medium sized earthquake. They always talk about “THE BIG ONE” that is going to happen one day. I just hope I am not in southern California when it happens.
Here is a little news story about the quake if you happened to miss it.

LOS ANGELES — Despite shaking a large swath of Southern California, a magnitude-5.4 earthquake was not the “Big One” that scientists have long feared. Still, it rattled nerves, causing people to vow to step up their emergency preparations.
The quake, which rocked the region from Los Angeles to San Diego on Tuesday, caused only limited damage and minor injuries, and served as a reminder of the seismic danger below sprawling freeways and subdivisions.
The temblor’s epicenter was located just outside Chino Hills, 29 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles in San Bernardino County, and it was felt as far east as Las Vegas. Dozens of aftershocks followed, the largest a magnitude-3.8.

Today my family went to our yearly trip to the Orange County Fair. This is an annual event that comes to our town in July. People come from all over southern California to enjoy a day and night of fun activities. They have concerts, carnival rides and lots of good food. They also have animals and a petting zoo for the children to enjoy. This was Kyle’s first time seeing pigs, goats, chickens and cows. He really seems to enjoy seeing all the animals.
We walked around and spent a beautiful afternoon together. The weather was a perfect southern California day. Both Monica and I cannot wait until next year when Kyle will be a little older and able to better appreciate all the sights and sounds of the fair.

It has been almost two months since I started this webpage on May 25, 2008. I mainly wanted to do it for my family and Monica’s family who live far away. Thanks to the Internet we can keep the whole family updated on what is going on with our family with stories and photos as well as movies.
So far I have had a wonderful time doing it. I have promoted the website with many promotional blog websites to improve overall traffic to the site. You probably have noticed the various blog buttons I have listed on the bottom right. By listing our website on these sites I automatically have more traffic, and in return have fun visiting other peoples websites as well.
I also have added several counters to the website to keep track of total visitors and where they are from. I am completely overwhelmed as to the total visitors as well as where all the visitors are from. Below I have posted results as of today. These results are from less than two months, so I can only imagine what traffic will be like after one year!
Feel free to click on the map or flag counter below to get a more detailed listing of visitors. You also can check both these counters yourself on the webpage for up to date, accurate results.
60 different countries have visited this site!
Thanks again for everyone visiting the site on a regular basis. I will try to always keep you all informed on new things going on with my family. I appreciate all the positive comments I have received from everyone.
Missing Monica & Kyle July 17, 2008

Many of you already know that I have been all alone this week. Monica and Kyle left Monday 7/14/2008 for a week of fun and relaxation with her Grandparents to Calvary Chapel Conference Center up in the local mountains in Lake Arrowhead. Lake Arrowhead is just a couple hours away from where we live, but it feels like a different world when you go there. Both Monica and I love to go up and visit a few times a year. It is nice to escape the concrete jungle of the big city and get up in the pine trees and fresh air.
I have to admit I did not think this out completely when Monica asked me if it was alright for her to take her yearly trip with her Grandparents this year. Last year when she went she was pregnant and it was nice for her to get away. We both rarely are separated from each other. But it is nice to get some away time from each other once in a while. I am always reminded of the old expression that absence makes the heart grow fonder. It is true that when someone you care for is away, you miss that person and think about them often, and that feeling makes you want to be with them even more.
So I always welcomed the opportunity when Monica got the chance to go away for a few days. What I did not realize was how much I would miss my son, Kyle. This is the first time I have been separated from him since his birth. It is funny how you complain about lack of sleep at night when he is fussy, or how you never seem to get any alone time because you are constantly taking care and watching your child. You quickly forget these mild irritations when you realize that they are gone.

Downtown Lake Arrowhead
At first I found myself kinda excited thinking about a whole week alone. Now I could play my favorite game on the computer, watch what ever I wanted on the television, and not have Monica upset with me. This excitement has now completely disappeared as I finally realize how much I miss my family. Not being able to see his little face in the morning and hearing him laugh as I sing a silly song to him has really made me sad. I now find myself anxiously counting down the days till they both return this Saturday.
So I guess the trip was beneficial for both Monica and I. Monica is a country girl at heart, and always prefers the outdoors and wilderness as compared to the city. Monica got a much needed escape with her Grandparents and a change of environment for a while. I on the other hand got a reality check to realize how much I love my wife and son.
So I guess it is true when they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. I can tell you first hand it definitely does!
Brett Farve changes his mind July 14, 2008

All you football fans already know that the once retired quarterback Brett Farve from the Green Bay Packers has changed his mind and wants to play again. He already had a very emotional, tearful goodbye press conference where he told everyone he had decided to retire.
Brett Favre was welcomed to play for Green Bay for as long as he wanted. He was the one that made the decision, held the tearful press conference and talked about closure. In this day and age you need to think long and hard before making a big decision.
What where the Packers suppose to do? Wait and not plan for the future? Green Bay was headed down a different course, having anointed Aaron Rodgers its new starter. The franchise was reticent to backtrack, especially after Favre got cold feet about a comeback in late March.
Such waffling — and Favre’s recent request to be released so he could pursue playing elsewhere — has left the Packers in a standoff with one of its most storied players.
Packers general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy said they don’t plan to grant Favre the release he is seeking from his contract and are committed to Aaron Rodgers as their starter.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Brett Farve is probably one of the best quarterbacks ever to play, and his record speaks for itself. Even though I am a die hard Chicago Bears fan, I have to admit it was always fun to watch Brett bring his team back from behind in the forth quarter of the game. You could tell he had a real love of the game, and everyone including non Green Bay fans loved him for it.
But Brett also needs to realize that he is the only one to blame. The Packers had to plan for a future without him, and they did. It is great that they will even encourage him to come back as a backup.
Sorry Brett, it’s your bed, and now you need to sleep in it.
Now some of his fans are rallying outside Lambeau Field to pressure the Green Bay Packers to reinstate him as the starting quarterback.
The crowd of more than 100 chanted “We want Brett,” and carried signs reading, “Favre for President” or “Favre Forever.” Many in the parking lot wore No. 4 jerseys, tossed footballs and grilled.
The rally in Green Bay, Wis., was the brainchild of brothers Adam and Erick Rolfson, who on Friday tried to think of a way to keep Favre in Green Bay. Another rally is planned for Monday night in suburban Milwaukee and every Sunday thereafter at Lambeau Field until Favre is back.
General Manager of the Green Bay Packers Ted Thompson called the situation “gut-wrenching.”
“We understand where the fans are coming from,” he said. “This is a hot-button issue that surpasses anything I’ve ever gone through.”
The brothers, from the Milwaukee suburb of Pewaukee, started making random phone calls Saturday from the Green Bay white pages urging people to attend Sunday’s rally and visit their Web site www.bringbackbrettfavre.com.
At the rally, they asked fans to vote on whether they wanted the team to make Favre the starter, whether Favre or Rodgers gives the Packers the best chance at the Super Bowl and whether Thompson should be fired if he trades or releases Favre.
The Web site is selling “Favre 08″ shirts, bumper stickers and yard signs. Erick Rolfson, 32, plans to turn his Wauwatosa mortgage company into “Favre ‘08 Headquarters.”
“Last time we checked,” he said, “Green Bay is a publicly owned franchise and is owned by the people in the community and by the stockholders, not Ted Thompson.”
So it looks like a big mess at this point. Whatever happens it saddens me to think the record of such a great player will forever be a little tarnished with this.
What do you think?
A visit from Aunt Gail July 10, 2008

Yesterday Kyle had a visit from Aunt Gail. He always is so very happy when she stops by to say hello, and spend a few hours with him. He definitely knows her very well, and his face lights up whenever he sees her. Monica and I are very happy and fortunate to have such a good friend, and so is Kyle!
Today we went to see the metabolic doctor at the hospital. The good news is that all the test they did came back normal. It appears that Kyle is perfectly healthy. Since he has been on the medicine he hasn’t had a seizure. The other good news is that since Kyle seems to be responding positively to the anti-seizure medicine there is a better chance that he will completely outgrow them within the next few years. Monica and I are very happy and relieved to hear that news!
Here are a few photos Aunt Gail took from last night with Kyle and his rubber duck. He always seems to laugh when he gets to play with his rubber duck. Gail can barely hold Kyle now, he is around 22 pounds, and it can be dificult holding him up for an extended period of time.
Thanks again Aunt Gail, Kyle is so happy when ever you stop by!
Tony’s visit July 4, 2008

We were lucky enough to have Monica’s brother Tony visit us for a few days. He flew in from Virginia earlier this week, and is going to spend a few weeks in California. We only got a few days with him, but it was very nice to see him again. It also was the first time that Tony met Kyle. Kyle seemed to like Tony very much, and always tried to communicate with him. Of course Kyle cannot talk yet, but that doesn’t mean he can’t try to talk. Just watch the following video to see what I mean.
Tony and Kyle also had something in common, they both enjoy swimming and the pool. We just got a pool floatie for Kyle, and he just loves it. He kicks his legs and manages to propell himself across the pool. He seems like a natural in the water, so I can only guess he will be a good swimmer.
Here are a few photos from Tony’s visit.
